Jerusalem

A view from the tower of the Lutheran church to Temple mount and Mount of olives.

I was in Jerusalem from Monday to Friday and visited many sacred places in Old town and its surroundings. On Thursday I made a short trip to Dead Sea.

Western wall (Wailing wall)

Western wall Jerusalem

First I went to Western wall, ie., Wailing wall. Western wall is allways open and there is no entrance fee.

Kipa

You must cover your head with something, for example with Kipa, if you go near the wall.

Church of the Holy Sepulchre

Church of the Holy Sepulchre Jerusalem

Church of the Holy Sepulchre is believed to be the site where Jesus was crusified and buried.

Temple mount

Dome of the Rock Jerusalem

Temple mount is open only a couple of hours in morning and afternoon. There was no entrance fee, but I had to stand in a queue at Dung gate at least for 20 minutes.

The Dome of the Rock is the most magnificent building in Jerusalem. For muslims this is a place where Mohammed ascended to heaven.

Ramparts walk, from Jaffa gate to Dung gate, 16 NIS (3,2 e).

Garden tomb

Garden tomb Jerusalem

The Garden tomb near the Damascus gate is an alternative site where Jesus is believed to have been crusified and buried. The place is popular especially among protestants. There were many pilgrimage groups singing in the area, even one from my home country (Finland).

Gethsemane

Gethsemane Jerusalem

Gethsemane is a garden at the foot of the Mount of Olives, some hundreds of meters outside of the Old city walls. In Gethsemane Jesus according to the bible prayed the night before he was crusified.

Hostel Hebron

Hostel Hebron Jerusalem

I stayed in Hostel Hebron in the middle of Old town along the Souq Khan al-Zeit street. A bed in a 16-bed dorm cost 13 euros/night including a locker and wi-fi in the lobby (photo above). I slept suprisingly well, maybe I’m getting used to sleeping in hostels (at last).
