First day in Luxor I visited Karnak temple complex, Wikipedia says it is the largest ancient religious site in the world.
Karnak is the second most visited sight in Egypt after Giza pyramids.
Entry ticket cost 65 Egyptian pounds (8 euros).
Hundreds of pillars of the Great Hypostyle Hall dedicated to different gods was by far the most impressive part of the temple complex.
There are 134 columns, highest are 21 metres.
Photographing was allowed in all the area.
By clicking the photos you can see the bigger versions.
Many visitors had guides, here one guide with the red shirt explaining.
There was some shooting for television going on, but it didn’t disturb visitors very much. On the contrary I found it interesting watching professionals working.
Many films, for example Tomb Rider – The Last Revolution and The return of the Mummy has been shot here.
It was only 33 degrees Celsius, so the television star was wearing a hood.
I went to Karnak temple from Luxor centre by horse-drawn carriages (caleche), the 4 km trip cost 15 EGP (2 e). The return trip by regular taxi cost the same.
I took this photo sitting in a caleche.
Here we go along the Nile.
